No matter what your personal style is, we want you to feel comfortable at the Islamic Center. We do not have a specific dress code. We ask visitors to respect this as a place of worship and dress modestly. Women are required to cover their hair to enter or participate in our Center, and we do request headscarves be worn in the prayer hall and during prayer out of reverence for our tradition. We have a small number of scarves available for guests at the front of the women’s prayer section.

It’s easy to take the shahada (declaration of faith). Simply by saying “There is no god apart from God, and Muhammad is the Messenger of God,” a believer announces his or her faith in all God’s messengers and belief in one omnipotent God. We suggest you speak with our Religious Director first to prepare you for this important step and address any questions you may have. Once you are ready, the shahada can be taken in front of witnesses often after a Friday or Sunday program, or in a more private setting depending on your preference. Contact us for an appointment.

The Qur’an is the holy book of Islām. Muslims believe that the Qur’an was divinely revealed and is the last and uncorrupted revelation from Almighty Allah. The Qur’an is preserved in its original Arabic form and is unanimously accepted that it has never been altered – preserved both orally and in written form. Quran translation can be obtained from Islamic center.
They deeply respect them and consider them to be amongst the greatest of human beings with Jesus being one of the greatest Messengers of Almighty God and His mother the greatest of all women. In the Qur’an there is one chapter (Surah) in the name of Mary herself – Surah 19. No other woman’s name was revealed explicitly in the Qur’ān except that of Mary
In Islam, both men and women are viewed as equals before Almighty God, in terms of both receiving equal reward and accountability for their actions.
The only thing that makes one better than another in the sight of Allah is their level of piety. Women are given the utmost respect and honour and no form of oppression is condoned against them.
Absolutely not. There is no scenario where Islam condones the killing of innocent civilians, animals or destroying infrastructure and the environment, even during times of war. Unfortunately, when there is a political conflict, people often use ideologies like religion to justify their actions.
In Islam, all things are halal or permissible for eating, including for example, fruit, vegetables, and meat, except for what is specifically prohibited in the Qur’an or by Prophet Muhammad, such as “the flesh of pigs” (The Qur’an 5:4) in any form (pork, ham, lard, or bacon). Some Muslims may object to eating foods with gelatin, such as marshmallows and some types of candy and desserts, because it may be derived from pigs. “Halal meat” usually means that the animal was slaughtered in a specific manner according to Islamic standards (humanely and pronouncing the name of Allah (God), whether it be chicken, beef, lamb, etc. Also, alcohol is haraam or prohibited to Muslims.
